To come to call myself an artist was a process. Ironically, it seemed so formal and structured. But I think I have arrived. Building furniture is a great affair. I love everything from selecting the materials to applying the final touches. My favorite part is the rough construction, the part when one is meandering toward the "proper" form. The original idea is taken and experimented with, worked and reworked, built up and chopped down, arranged and reinvented, until finally, step by step, the desired shape comes through. Rarely does the final product resemble the initial impulse. Most often, something new and exciting has been created.
